7 Guest Blogging Mistakes That You Must Avoid

Guest blogging is undoubtedly the best way to kick-start a blog. But, do you think it is easy to guest post on any blog?

Well, of course, yes. If you can avoid these guest blogging mistakes, you can surely succeed or else, miserably fail.

Guest Blogging Mistakes

@Neil T

Guest blogging can bring you traffic, build links, increase readership, spread your name and much more. In fact, it can be the best way to boost your blog. Make sure, you never do any of these guest blogging mistakes, if you want to be successful.

Guidelines

Every blog has its own set of guidelines for guest authors. Make sure, you follow them. Like, some sites may allow you to write an article of your own length/word count. But some don’t. Blog managers hate to get irritated (well, who don’t). If you are violating their guidelines, the chances of getting your post published become very less.

Remember, every site with a not-bad PR and traffic, get a lot of guest post requests, if you want your post to get published, go through the guidelines page first.

Targeting Wrong Blogs

Do a little research before you send your guest post for a blog. See how good the readership is, the benefits you get and the type of content they publish on their site. Make sure, you read some of the blog’s previous posts.

Also, make sure, you are not targeting a blog out of your niche. Even if you have successfully produced a really great article on internet marketing, wanting it to get published on a health site is meaningless. Always choose blogs of your niche ONLY.

Low Quality Posts

It doesn’t matter, if the post is not getting published on your own site. It is still getting published with your name. So, never even try to write low quality posts. Whether it’s a guest post or whatever, always produce great quality articles. Even if your poor quality article gets published on any blog (it won’t), you’ll not get any sort of benefits. In return, people who read the article will never visit your blog again. Pretty nice, huh?

Grammar/Spelling Mistakes

Guest Blogging Mistake - Spellings

@tupwanders

If you don’t have enough time to proofread and edit your articles, how can the blog manager? It is your duty to proofread the article and edit it. Make sure, there are no spelling or grammar mistakes in the article. These might be silly mistakes to sound but can really get your post trashed. After all, they can be corrected with simple tools. So, ever after completely writing your post, proofread the article once or probably twice and correct all the mistakes.

Adding Too Many Links

Of course, you are awarded with a couple or more links to your blog. That doesn’t mean you can either add your affiliate links to earn more or make it a link farm and link all your blog articles with each word. Google hates such over-linking and so does the blog managers. Only, add links at appropriate places with anchor texts. If you have created a landing page for your blog, you can immediately use it. But never add too many links.

Not Responding

As a blogger, it is important for you to respond. If your guest post gets published on a blog, you obviously get some comments. Read each of them and politely, answer. It is considered to be one of the best ways to engage with the audience. This is one of the guest blogging mistakes which you should avoid at any cost. Even if it is your own blog, always respond to comments.

Poor Author Bio

In a guest post, it is the author by-line that plays a vital role. If you want to get clients from your guest posts, you should first write a proper author by-line. Write a compelling by-line with no more than twenty words and you can get a lot just from these two lines.

Conclusion

This is how I got my posts published on sites like FamousBloggers, Kikolani, BloggingTips, ShoutMeLoud and many more. Do let me know, if you want a guest post from me. The contact form is always open.

  1. Hello Koundeenya :)
    This is my first visit to your blog. I landed on your page from Illeane’s blog :) Good to see your blog. Anyways, coming back to the point, you have mentioned some not so common mistakes Guest Bloggers do.
    Let me tell you the common mistakes they do which they should avoid-
    1. First read the Guidelines of the Guest Posting.
    2. Check the Niche, one should Guest Post on same niche sites only.
    3. One should approach the blog owner in a very a positive and professional tone.
    People lack these points and after they apply, they dont get response from the blogmasters.
    What do you think?

    • Of course, the points you have mentioned are somehow covered in the article, Sanjib.
      But I do admit, approaching the blog manager is a real task. The very email itself can decide whether you should be given a chance or not.

      Thanks for your feedback.

      Regards

  2. Many people fail at writing proper author bio. Half of them spam their Author bio with links, and half of them with keywords and anchor texts. A good author bio has only one social media profile to Google Plus, and in worst cases, their freelancing project URL or website. Anything more than that looks spammy and crappy.
